"Njila" Project Covers Four Municipalities in Cunene

Africa-Press – Angola. The municipalities of Cunhama, Namacunde, Ombadja and Cahama, in the southern province of Cunene, will benefit from the Project to Strengthen Governance for the Improvement of Services in Angola named “Njila”, in order to contribute to the sustainable development of rural and urban communities in these localities.

Lasting five years, the “Njila” project, valued at USD 250 million, is the result of an agreement signed in January this year by the Government and the World Bank (WB), with a view to finding solutions for competent local governance of proximity that promotes citizenship.

According to the program’s general director, Santinho Figueira, the initiative aims to implement the municipal directors’ plans for the massification of identity cards, the training of staff and the reinforcement of proximity skills that promote citizenship.

The government official revealed that the money is now available, urging the administrators of the municipalities covered to prepare their project portfolios as quickly as possible.

In turn, the acting governor of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulega, said that the implementation of this project will allow several social and community problems to be resolved.

“Njila” is a project of the Government which is coordinated by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and supported by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the Ministry of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing and the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security, through the National School of Administration and Public Policies (ENAPP).
