Africa-Press – Angola. The Provincial Council of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) in Bié launched Thursday, in the municipality of Andulo, the Lawyer’s On Call Programme, with a view to guaranteeing legal assistance to local citizens.
The programme, which also covers the neighboring municipality of Nhârea, will be ensured by seven lawyers, with the aim of accompanying the interrogations of citizens in conflict with the law before the Guarantor judge or the public prosecutor.
The president of the OAA in Bié, António Buta, informed that the process, started a few days ago, in the city of Cuito, aims to support citizens who are unable to hire a lawyer, with financial incapacity or any other assumption.
He announced the expansion of the project to other municipalities, namely, Camacupa, Chinguar and Chitembo, as they have District Courts or General Courts
In the municipalities of Andulo and Nharêa, the program will be coordinated by lawyer Paulo Camundongo, who proposed to work in the defense and protection of citizens in conflict with the law.
The province of Bié, central Angola, with approximately two million inhabitants, has 56 lawyers and 36 interns.
This year, 48 trainee lawyers joined and are waiting to receive their professional certificates.
