Africa-Press – Angola. Twenty-seven Angolan citizens received free legal assistance this Saturday during a legal fair hosted by the provincial council of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) in Huíla.
The five-hour event at the Lubango municipal market was part of the festivities marking the 29th anniversary of National Lawyers’ Day, which will be celebrated on the 20th of this month, under the motto: “We are all the bar.”
The lawyers handled mostly family-related cases, particularly those involving alimony and civil partnership recognition after death, as well as civil, labor, and criminal proceedings. On the occasion, the president of the OAA provincial council in Huíla, Everdoso Tchiangalala, said this is a social initiative, aligned with the order’s social role, which aims to guarantee citizens access to justice and legal advice, regardless of their financial situation.
He added that the initiative will continue on the 26th of this month, at the Mutundo informal market, and that each consultation will receive free institutional support.
“We cannot allow citizens to be deprived of their fundamental rights due to financial inability. This is a way to bring the OAA closer to the community and strengthen legal culture,” he said.
The program commemorating the OAA’s 29th anniversary, which opens on the 12th of this month, with a blood donation drive at the “Irene Neto” maternity hospital, includes a roundtable discussion, sports activities, and the participation of a delegation of more than 40 lawyers from the province in the national conference of the profession, taking place in Bié province.
