Africa-Press – Angola. The II Ocean Conference, which takes place from June 27 to July 1, in Lisbon, Portugal, under the theme “strengthening ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of SDG14: assessment, partnerships and solutions” , elected Angola as one of the vice-presidents and general rapporteur of the event.
The choice of Angola as vice-president was approved by consensus by the conference and, consequently, Ambassador Maria de Jesus Ferreira, permanent representative of the Angolan Mission to the UN in New York, was elected rapporteur-general of the II Ocean Conference.
In a statement from the country’s Mission to the UN, it also refers that the Conference elected two presidents and thirteen vice-presidents, among which Angola and Mozambique occupy the two vacancies for Africa, with Angola also being elected rapporteur-general.
The United Nations General Assembly, through resolution 73/292, convened the II High Level Conference to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
The United Nations Ocean Conference, co-organized by the governments of Portugal and Kenya, takes place at a time when the world is making efforts to mobilize, create and promote solutions that allow achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals before 2030.
