Africa-Press – Angola. Approximately 155,000 tons of copper and sulfur have been transported abroad through the Lobito Corridor since January 2024, Otoniel Manuel, executive director of the Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) said Thursday in Luanda.

Speaking to the press at the end of the 3rd International Mining Conference of Angola, he stated that the managing authorities intend to transport 200,000 tons of cargo by the end of this year.

He explained that the company has over 950 employees and has invested in equipment acquisition, including container ships and containers, infrastructure investments, maintenance of the railway line’s operations and staff training.

Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) is a concessionaire that operates the Lobito Corridor, a 1,300-km railway line connecting the Port of Lobito in Angola to Luau, on the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

LAR is a joint venture of private companies and aims to modernize and operate this important freight transport route, connecting the African mining hub to international markets.

The event aims to create an investment-friendly environment by fostering strategic partnerships between domestic and foreign investors, promote best practices in the exploration of mineral resources, and ensure sustainability through the sharing of innovative technologies and solutions.

Its objectives also include mapping investment opportunities in the mining and related services sector, stimulating investor interest and confidence.
