Over 30 Prominent Figures Honored on Peace Day in Matala Municipality

Africa-Press – Angola. The municipal administrator of Matala, Manuel Machado Quilende, on Saturday, honored 34 individuals with certificates of honor, including politicians, public servants, and former officers, as part of the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation marked on April 4th.

This tribute served to reflect on the impact of the achievement of definitive peace on April 4th, 2002, and their contributions to the municipality’s consolidation within the national context.

In order to honor the event, the day was marked by the raising of the flag, the laying of a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier, and hundreds of Matala residents filled the city’s main streets in a civic march to celebrate the effects of peace.

In his speech, the Municipal Administrator of Matala, Manuel Machado Quilende, thanked everyone for participating in the activities planned to celebrate the Peace Day.

He stated that the motto “For the Economic Development and Well-being of Angolans, Together Hand in Hand”, serves to call upon the citizens to continue spreading the message of unity and cooperation to promote sustainable development.

The municipality of Matala is located 180 kilometers east of Lubango city. It has an estimated population of over 233,000 inhabitants.
