Africa-Press – Angola. The peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) dominated Wednesday’s meeting in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, between the Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, and the first vice Speaker of the National Assembly of that country, Isaac Jean Claude Tshilumba.
According to a note sent, during the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 57th Plenary Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, Carolina Cerqueira received detailed information on the ongoing peace process, the progress achieved to date, as well as the constraints to effective peace.
The Congolese MP took the opportunity to announce the results of the good offices mission led by the president of the Togolese parliament, who was recently in Kinshasa to hold talks with local authorities, members of civil society, and political parties.
Isaac Jean Claude Tshilumba thanked Angola in general, and particularly the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, for his support, when he was the mediator appointed by the African Union.
He also expressed the willingness of the DRC parliament to support the functional structure and human resources needed to boost the activities of the Parliamentary Forum of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) , an organization led by the Angola National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira,headquartered in Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC.
Carolina Cerqueira reiterated Angola’s willingness to continue supporting the peace process in the DRC, within the framework of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Carolina Cerqueira also met with the Secretary-General of the Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region , Deo Osmund Mwapinga, who took the opportunity to thank Angola for its success during the organization’s 15th plenary session held in Luanda, as well as providing information on the organization’s operating structure.
Angola is participating in the 57th Plenary Session of the FP-SADC with a delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly and composed of deputies Ruth Mendes, Teresa Neto, Luísa Damião, Pedro Sebastião, and Diamantino Mussokola.
