Africa-Press – Angola. Petro de Luanda team won the Wladimiro Romero Super Cup in basketball on Saturday, defeating Vila Clotilde by an impressive 116-64, at the Cidadela pavilion in the country’s capital.

The team of Petro de Luanda were superior in all aspects of the game, from beginning to end, finding no difficulty in adding the 12th trophy of the competition, which symbolizes the start of the 2025-2026 season, in the unprecedented dispute.

The competition honors the former basketball coach Wladimiro Romero, who died in 1999 in a traffic accident, for his contribution to the development of basketball.

The competition, before being named after the former basketball coach, has been played since 1993 between the national champion and the winner of the Angolan Cup, both from the previous season.

Petro, under the leadership of the late Wladimiro, won the first four editions (1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996).
