The data was presented, this Monday, by the Public Prosecutor in Cunene, Beatriz dos Santos, at the opening of legality week, as part of the festivities marking the 45th anniversary of the institutionalization of the body to be celebrated on April 27th.

On the occasion, Beatriz dos Santos reported that during the period in question, six thousand and 816 defendants were registered, two thousand and 263 were arrested and four thousand and 53 others were released.

He made it known that the PGR, in the District of Cuanhama, charged and filed 898 cases in court, as well as carrying out 455 trials.

Regarding the administrative area, he noted the registration of 85 different actions, 54 processes in the work area and seven in the juvenile justice room.

The judge highlighted that the Public Prosecutor’s Office has been able to fulfill its duties and competencies, within the scope of institutional cooperation with the bodies that intervene in the administration of justice, aiming to search for solutions leading to the implementation of justice that guarantees the common good.

However, he highlighted that within the scope of legality week, the PGR plans to work on strengthening existing institutional relations between other State bodies, based on respect for the Constitution and the law.

He highlighted that the motto chosen for this year “The Public Ministry and the protection of the environment, challenges and perspectives”, aims to raise people’s awareness of the rational use of resources available in nature, with a view to their protection.

At the opening, the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulenga, highlighted the importance of the week of legality, as it constitutes a driving force for strengthening the identity of the PGR, aiming at the defense and legality of justice.

Apolo Ndinoulenga said it was necessary for the PGR and other institutions to reinforce citizens’ legal awareness for the moralization of Angolan society and respect for the law.

He said that legality week proposed an interesting theme that serves as a reflection and opportunity to awaken society’s involvement in maintaining life on the planet.

He explained that, in the province of Cunene, several actions have been developed in favor of environmental protection, with emphasis on awareness campaigns among communities, tree plantations and the application of coercive measures against practices that are inimical to flora and fauna.

By way of example, he clarified that, from January to March 2024, 170 different trees were planted, as well as 2,500 bags of charcoal seized, actions that will be ongoing.

“We are all called to reinforce environmental awareness and education, combined through an effective information system, to improve institutional capacities in response to current challenges”, he stated.

The Attorney General’s Office in Cunene controls 16 magistrates, one of whom has retired, 42 justice administration technicians and seven administrative employees.

Taking place from the 22nd to the 27th of this month, the legality week day encompasses various activities such as lectures, radio debates and others of a sporting nature.

The Attorney General’s Office was institutionalized on April 27, 1979, with the approval of Law No. 5/90.
