Africa-Press – Angola. The Attorney General of the Republic, Hélder Fernando Pitta Gróz, highlighted, this Monday, society’s contribution to crime prevention, with the aim of reducing the current rates.

According to the magistrate, who was speaking at the opening of the 3rd Review Meeting of the Northern Judicial Region, which takes place in Ndalatando, capital of Cuanza Norte province, despite the fact that the PGR has the attribution, by force of law, of preventing crime, this This task does not fall to this institution alone, but to other actors in society, such as municipal and communal administrations.

Hélder Fernando Pitta Gróz explained that the legal education of citizens should also be an action and tool for magistrates in their activities, in order to contribute to the prevention of crime.

The official recommended that the public prosecutors should always be available to meet the needs of the population, by solving their problems.

According to Pitta Gróz, the joint presence of members of the PGR and the Criminal Investigation Police (SIC) in a given action has often been a guarantee for citizens to solve their problems.

For the prosecutor, the adaptation of the PGR law, enacted in 2012, the division of the country into Judicial Regions, the defense of collective and inmate rights, economic, financial and environmental crime, among others, should also constitute premises for magistrates and staff of the institution.

He considered the challenges of the PGR as enormous, indicating the improvement of human resources, both in quality and quantity, with the academic and professional training of staff being a task of the institution and of each employee.

According to the attorney general, at the beginning of 2023, more than 100 new magistrates will take office in order to respond to the needs of lack of human resources in several Judicial Regions, as well as to improve the quality of service.

He pointed to illegal logging, fuel smuggling, poaching, illegal export of medicines and food, as the most worrying crimes that occur in the Northern Judicial Region, which comprises the provinces of Uíge, Zaire, Bengo, Cuanza Norte and Malanje. , which must be fought in an exemplary manner by apprehending all the means involved in these operations and making the actors accountable.

The meeting, which takes place under the motto “Standardization of procedures in procedural instruction”, ends Tuesday with the workshop “Procedural Procedure in Preparatory Instruction”.

The topics will be discussed – “Relationship between the Public Ministry, criminal investigation bodies and the guarantee judge: effective direction of the preparatory instruction”, “Role of the guarantee judge in the preparatory instruction”, “Performance of the General Tax Administration and the Tax Police in preparatory instruction for criminal proceedings”, “Challenges of criminal instruction in the light of the new model of preparatory instruction”.

“Challenges of the preparatory instruction: investigation versus the rights of the defendants” and “The Importance of assigning unique numbers of cases in the standardization of criminal statistics”, are other topics to be addressed at the event, in which public prosecutors and military personnel, responsible for the Criminal Investigation Service of the provinces in the Northern Judicial Region, senior officials and guests.
