Africa-Press – Angola. The pilot population and housing census, starting on 19 July this year, will cover the municipalities of Ombadja and Cuvelai, in Cunene, said this Friday, in Ondjiva, the deputy director of the National Institute of Statistics ( INE), Hernani Luís.
This phase, lasting 20 days, will have 105 employees, including technicians, cartographers and drivers, in order to measure the population and housing growth since the last census carried out in 2014.
Speaking at the end of the audience with the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulenga, the official said that they had come to assess the level of technical capacity in this district, within the scope of the pilot census in July.
He explained that this process will better assess the needs and test the capacity of the technological means that will be used in the 2024 General Census, unlike the last one that took place in an analogous way.
“We want the conditions to be fine-tuned, from the synchronization of information to be collected in the field and real-time communication with the command posts at provincial and central level”, he said.
Hernani Luís recognized that the province has an interesting particularity and its own territory, it is estimated that next year it will have around one million and 300 inhabitants.
Cunene is part of the seven provinces selected for the pilot census, along with Luanda, Bengo, Uige, Bié, Lunda Norte and Cuando Cubango.
During five days of work in Cunene, the multisectoral delegation will hold meetings with various entities in the province and field visits in the municipality of Ombadja.
The general population and housing census is important for Angola, as it allows to know precisely, for example, the number of inhabitants, how many men, women, children and elderly people, where they live and how they live, information that helps to better plan the distribution of essential services to the population in the country.
The National Institute of Statistics (INE) expects to register 34 million inhabitants across the country during the 2024 population and housing census.
