Africa-Press – Angola. Seventy diamonds of different carats were seized by the National Police in Lunda Norte, during a micro-operation carried out last weekend.
The information was provided Tuesday, by the spokesman for the Provincial Command of the National Police in Lunda Norte, Domingos Muanafumo, stressing that the operation was aimed at mining areas in the municipalities of Xá-muteba and Lucapa.
During the operation, coordinated with the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), 16 gravel washing nets, 14 shovels, 13 machetes, six motor pumps, a dredge, among other materials used by prospectors for the illegal exploitation of the strategic mineral were seized.
According to the person in charge, the seized diamonds and means were handed over to the “Operation Transparency” Listing Commission.
Without revealing the number of citizens detained in the operation, he informed that they have already been forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the formalization of the crime (possession, trafficking and illegal exploitation).
He said that the operation will continue “because the objective is to eliminate the areas of mining in the province”.
