Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, discussed this Wednesday, in Luanda, with the Portuguese Finance Minister, Fernando Medina, the economic and financial relationship between Angola and Portugal, within the framework of strengthening existing cooperation.

In Angola since last Sunday, the Portuguese official was received, in audience, this morning, by President João Lourenço, at the Presidential Palace in Cidade Alta.

“I had the privilege of now having an audience with the President of the Republic. A very important, frank and productive meeting, where we had the opportunity to take stock of the situation on various topics of economic and financial relations”, said the minister.

Fernando Medina said that investment opportunities in the country were also discussed, with the Angolan Head of State defining, with great rigor, the importance of diversifying Angola’s productive economic base, strengthening fundamental infrastructures and regarding human capital.

According to the minister, the objective is to see how Portugal can contribute, through its companies and its financial instruments, so that projects are at the service of the population more quickly.

“The realization of investments, basically, translates into the ability to, more quickly, improve the living conditions of the populations, to make the economy more competitive and more modern, with better infrastructures at your service”, argued the minister.

On the other hand, Fernando Medina informed that he had conveyed, to President João Lourenço, Portugal’s decision to extend the credit line from 1.5 billion euros to 2 billion euros, to support more investment projects in Angola.

He explained that the aforementioned line of financing is permanent, with the aim of financing projects defined by the Angolan State, with an estimated repayment of ten years, which can be extended to 15 years, according to international standards and consensus between the parties.

“It was an audience with which I was very touched by the way it took place, in a friendly, fraternal way and we want to continue with this work in a very intense way, developing all the aspects that can improve the lives of citizens, as quickly as possible”, he said. .

Minister Fernando Medina’s working visit ends this Thursday.
