Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, held a courtesy meeting this Monday in Seoul with the president of the Korean National Assembly, Kim Jin-Pyo.

On the first day of his 48-hour state visit to the Republic of Korea, João Lourenço discussed with his interlocutor reciprocal business opportunities and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, among other issues.

On the occasion, the Angolan statesman paid a visit to the plenary session of the South Korean hemicycle.

In addition to this meeting, the program establishes, for this Monday, the opening of the Angola-Korea Business Forum, where he will speak.

As the highlights of the visit, João Lourenço will hold a private meeting with his South Korean counterpart, Yoon Suk-Yeol, as well as witness the signing of agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

It has also scheduled, among other matters, the laying of a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier at the Seoul National Cemetery.

Advantages of the Korean economy

In the meeting he held with the Korean parliamentary leader, Kim Jin-Pyo, the latter was accompanied by several other prominent figures from the Korean law house.

João Lourenço’s presence at the headquarters of the Korean Parliament consisted of an extended conversation followed by a guided tour of the plenary room, with explanations about the organization of the body and its functioning.

In the exchange of messages, the interest that the two States have in cooperating with each other became clear.

Kim Jin-Pyo highlighted, as relevant factors in Angola’s competitiveness, the abundance of its natural resources, the youth of its population and oil production, among others.

In turn, President João Lourenço highlighted Korea’s advantages, including its industrial capacity, demonstrated by the fact that, in just a few years, it developed rapidly and reached the position of one of the largest economies in the world.

João Lourenço explained to the hosts Angola’s enormous work in creating basic infrastructures so that it could then move forward with the challenge of industrialization.

He pointed out a set of resources and bets that could play a relevant role in bilateral relations, such as the existence in the national territory of strategic minerals that are in great demand by Korean industry, including electronics.

The President of the Republic expressed the desire to see a certain number of productive activities carried out by Korean companies also have a presence in the Angolan market, such as the naval industry and others.

On the other hand, President João Lourenço confirmed that Angola will participate in the Korea-Africa summit, scheduled for next June, in Seoul.
