Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, praised, this Monday, in the city of Saurino, province of Lunda-Sul, the Sociedade Mineira de Catoca in terms of social responsibility in favor of the communities surrounding the project.
The Catoca project, in terms of social responsibility, is an example to follow because they assist, with all types of help, school meals, school supplies, among others, said the Head of State to the press, after the inauguration of the Luele diamond project, considered the largest in the country and the 3rd largest kimberlite in the world, with reserves estimated at 350 million carats and with a useful lifespan of 60 years.
According to President João Lourenço, the social responsibility of companies is an obligation, for which they have to dedicate part of their revenue, precisely to this so-called social responsibility in favor of the communities that are around these large projects and beyond.
He noted that, in the specific case of social responsibility, the Catoca project is a good reference in the province of Lunda-Sul.
Regarding the Luele project, which has just started, President João Lourenço was pleased that he had already laid the first stone for the construction of a certain number of social housing units for the benefit of the communities surrounding the area. of the project.
“Therefore, the authorities must seek to follow the behavior of companies and those that refuse, let’s say, to assume this social responsibility, must be penalized, obviously for avoiding social responsibility”, he warned.
On the other hand, he appealed to common sense in the search for balance, highlighting that there are situations in which the project has barely started, the communities are already making demands, “some of which, we can say, are unrealizable. Therefore, there has to be dialogue and a middle ground must be found , under penalty of also ending up killing the project itself”.
For the Head of State, the portion dedicated to social responsibility cannot exceed a certain percentage of a given project.
Employment for youth
The Executive Power Holder highlighted that as time goes by the job offer has been increasing in the country, remembering that he was recently in Lunda-Sul where he inaugurated the Saurimo Development Pole, which has already provided employment to a considerable number of young people .
He acknowledged, however, that what has been done so far is still not enough, “Therefore, both the State and private sector companies will continue to work to ensure that the job offer becomes not only continuous but also increasing, that is, the demand/supply relationship is balanced”.
He added that, “demand is still greater than supply”, highlighting the authorities’ efforts to increasingly reduce these gaps between demand and supply.
