PR reaffirms continuation of FAA modernization

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, guaranteed this Tuesday, in Luanda, the continuation of the modernization process of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), with emphasis on the Navy.

After inaugurating the first phase of the National Center for Maritime Coordination and Surveillance, in the coastal area of ​​Ramiros, in Luanda, João Lourenço declared that these were investments on land that included the acquisition of modern vessels, as well as surveillance aircraft and recognition.

At a press conference, he pointed out that, after the inauguration of the Soyo base, in the province of Zaire, and now in Luanda, those in Lobito and Namibe will be completed this year.

He announced the construction of the Navy’s largest central naval base, while the current one is undergoing rehabilitation, as well as the acquisition, soon, in Spain, of three maritime reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces stated that he felt that the mission had been partially accomplished, as the Lobito and Namibe centers were still under construction, promising to do everything to ensure that they were completed this year.

In turn, the Minister of National Defense Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, João Ernesto dos Santos, declared that infrastructure is essential to guarantee economic exploration, protection and exploitation of the sea.

For the governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem, it is opportune to monitor maritime traffic, particularly in the country’s capital to discourage illicit activities, especially illegal fishing.

He highlighted that the new infrastructure will ensure the normal functioning of maritime activities on the Angolan coast.
