Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, João Lourenço, reopened, this Monday, in the province of Zaire, the Soyo Naval Base.

The reopening of the infrastructure, expanded and modernized, takes place within the context of the 47th anniversary of the Angolan Navy, marked today (10).

The North Naval Base, built in a total construction area of ​​111 thousand and 500 square meters, has an access channel and a maneuvering basin, which led to the dredging of 6 million and 130 thousand cubic meters of land, and in it stand out the wharf, with a length of 330 meters, as well as the three wharf bridges, with a total length of 374 meters.

It also includes a 115-metre floating walkway for mooring light vessels, a landing ramp, among others.

In addition to the new installations, the land works also included the former military base where the administrative support services will operate, spaces for physical activities, cafeteria, fire detection systems and energy.

The process of expanding and modernizing the infrastructure, which started in March 2021, was an investment by the Angolan government.

The Soyo Naval Base is a support unit for the North Naval Region, which, in addition to Zaire, includes the provisions of Luanda, Bengo and Cabinda.

The project takes place within the framework of the program for the enhancement and re-equipment of naval assets, underway in the Navy and, as a result, this branch of the FAA has been equipped with modern infrastructure suitable for the high international standards of the naval defense sector, to ensure the maritime surveillance and security, strengthening its operational readiness.

The entry into operation of the new infrastructure at the Naval Base of Soyo will bring gains for the country, especially in the deployment of forces to carry out missions in areas of Angolan responsibility, with emphasis on the regions of the Gulf of Guinea, the Great Lakes and others on the African continent.

Bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, Angola has a coastline of 1,650 kilometers from north to south.
