President Abdel Fattah encourages Egyptian investment in Angola

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, pledged this Wednesday to support his country’s business class to invest in the Angolan market, through the Angola-Egypt Joint Committee.

Speaking to the press about the results of the private meeting held yesterday, in Luanda, with his Angolan counterpart João Lourenço, the Egyptian Head of State said he hoped that the bet would result in an increase in the volume of business between the countries.

The Egyptian President expressed, on the occasion, his will to strengthen cooperation with Angola, with a view to the political and socio-economic development of both States.

Flanked by his Angolan counterpart, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi lamented the fact that the volume of trade between Angola and Egypt does not reflect the excellent level of existing friendly relations.

On another front, he referred to the conflicts in Sudan, Libya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia and the Sahel region, having defended a lasting solution.

“We jointly express our concern in working to restore peace and security in those countries of our continent”, said the Statesman, underlining the urgent need to intensify the dialogue between the belligerent parties.

Abdel Fattah El-Sisi witnessed at the Presidential Palace, in the company of President João Lourenço, the signing of two legal instruments on Security and Public Order, as well as on Technical Assistance on Groundwater.

From Luanda, the Egyptian leader will travel to Mozambique, as part of a tour of African countries, which will also take him to Zambia.

Angola-Egypt Cooperation

Angola and Egypt formalized political-diplomatic relations on 26 March 1987 through the signing, in Luanda, of the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

According to information, the two countries are very interested in increasing cooperation in areas such as the Economy, Trade and Industry, Education, Higher Education and Technical-Professional Training, Energy and Water, Banking and Finance, Agriculture and Fisheries.

Angola and Egypt are also engaged in the preparation of the first session of the Bilateral Commission, which should assess cooperation and establish the implementation process of the legal instruments in force.

The Bilateral Commission meeting will make it possible to identify new areas of cooperation, taking into account the potential of Angola and Egypt.

Egypt is located in the northern region of the African continent, bordering Sudan to the South, Libya to the West, the Mediterranean Sea to the North and the Red Sea to the East.

The Suez Canal, built in 1869, connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea through a waterway at sea level with a population of 100.9 million inhabitants and a territorial extension of 1,001,450 square kilometers.
