Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President and Chair of the African Union, João Lourenço, highlighted, at the opening of the 7th African Union–European Union Summit, the importance of deepening relations between the two continents and strengthening the African presence in global decision-making processes.
When speaking at the opening of the summit, before heads of state, institutional leaders and delegations from Africa and Europe, the President recalled that the African Union established clear priorities to guide continental development, with emphasis on the consolidation of peace, stability and security, conditions that he considered indispensable to accelerate economic integration, promote the empowerment of women and young people and advance climate resilience and the energy transition.
However, he stressed that none of these objectives could be fully achieved without “Africa’s voice being effectively heard” in global governance spaces, defending a stronger role for the continent in the reforms of the main international institutions.
In his speech, the African leader warned of the growing complexity of global challenges, including the food, energy, humanitarian and health crises, which have driven migratory flows and worsened unemployment.
To face this scenario, he defended a continuous deepening of Africa-Europe relations, in search of benefits for both sides, highlighting that Luanda becomes, with this summit, a “tribune of hope” to reinforce dialogue between the continents.

The President therefore expressed joy at the presence of the dignitaries and thanked both parties for their commitment to holding the summit, which he considered to be “a compass and a bridge” to guide future cooperation between the AU and the EU.
