Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, addressed this Tuesday, in Luanda, the stage of cooperation between Angola and the Russian Federation, during an audience granted to the Russian ambassador, Vladimir Tararov.

Speaking to the press, the Russian diplomat declared that cooperative relations between the two countries are good, historical and friendly.

He revealed that the Angolan Head of State was invited by his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to participate, in Moscow, on May 9th, in the celebrations of the victory over fascism in World War II.

He indicated that a summit of foreign ministers from Africa and Russia is also planned for November this year, in Sochi, to address issues of world peace and security.

Vladimir Tararov expressed the Russian business community’s interest in investing in the economic development of Angola, including the production of agricultural goods, such as bananas and coffee, taking advantage of the country’s fertile soils.

He added that Russian businessmen, mostly from Saint Petersburg, are negotiating the acquisition of land for coffee plantations in Angola and ensuring direct supply for their chocolate production companies.

He assured that the Russian diamond company “Al Rosa” continues to work without any restrictions, contributing to the country’s economic development.

The ambassador also announced the donation of 50 ambulances, from a batch of 150, equipped with means capable of offering quality assistance to patients.

He acknowledged that trade exchanges between the two countries are not “very large”, but could be relaunched with future meetings of the Angola/Russia Mixed Commission, with reciprocal gains.

The first cooperation agreements between Angola and Russia, successor to the former USSR, were initialed in 1976, in Moscow, between the then Presidents, António Agostinho Neto and Leonid Brezhnev, respectively.

The understandings at that time, aligned with the aims of establishing socialism in Angola, affected almost all areas of political-military, economic and social life, including the training of leading cadres of the party and the country.
