Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço on Friday received a message from the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, with content related to the participation of the Angolan Head of the State to Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) 9th edition, to be held in August, in Yokohama.
The bearer of the missive was Daishiro Yamagiwa, as an emissary of the head of the Japanese Government, who, at the end of the audience, reported that the Angolan head of state was invited to co-chair the event, in his capacity as the African Union (AU) Chairperson.
“I have brought a letter from the Prime Minister of Japan to request the cooperation of President Lourenço as co-chair of this conference,” he said.
TICAD, promoted by the Japanese government since 1993, is a high-level platform to discuss partnership and development strategies with the African continent.
“This will be the 9th conference with a current focus on Africa economic development,” Yamagiwa explained, noting that in the last ten years the focus of cooperation has evolved from areas such as basic health and infrastructure to initiatives aimed at sustainable economic growth.
The Japanese envoy also highlighted the good state of bilateral relations between Angola and Japan, pointing out, however, that there is room for further deepening, especially in the economic aspect.
“Relations are good, but we believe that there is still a lot of room to develop this cooperation,” he concluded.
The 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) will be held from 09 to 22 August in Yokohama (Japan). The event that stands out as one of the main global forums for cooperation and high-level dialogue between Japan and African countries.
About 200 Japanese companies will be present at the TICAD Business Expo, the largest event ever organized by the Japanese authorities.
Several thematic pavilions are planned (Japan Fair, Africa Lounge, event stage, exhibitions) to foster investment, innovation and market training.
