Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, highlighted, this Monday, in the city of Praia (Cape Verde), greater approximation of parliaments to voters and the defense of green parliaments as determinants for the consolidation of democracy, peace, human rights and good governance.
Speaking on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of the amendment to the Cooperation Protocol between the parliaments of Angola and Cape Verde, Carolina Cerqueira pointed out gender parity and equity, peace, tolerance, dialogue and concertation as essential and primordial foundations for credible and democratic parliaments, respecting the constitutional order.
In his view, for parliamentary activity to be the prerogative of democracy, the expression of maturity and trust between political actors, fueled by constructive and urban debate, a common denominator between political parties is necessary, prevailing common sense, fairness and ethics.
The leader of the Angolan parliament identified, within the framework of cooperation, as issues of a global nature, of concentrated reflection and harmonization of action in the international arena, climate change and security, including food security, with emphasis on the fight against cyber crimes.
According to the official, a strong commitment is still needed in the area of renewable energies, as well as combating the effects of global warming on sustainable development, to guarantee the well-being of the populations of both countries.
Carolina Cerqueira also defended administrative and financial modernization, access to new technologies and the exchange of experiences in security matters, especially in security on the African continent and on a global scale.
Regarding the addendum signed with his counterpart Austelino Tavares Correia, he added that the contained changes allow for a better systematization, understanding and expansion of cooperation in areas of common interest.
Carolina Cerqueira stated that nine years later, it became evident the need to introduce changes to the agreement signed in 2014 with the AN of Cape Verde, in order to adapt it to the current context of parliamentary dynamics and the challenges of regional and global geopolitics.
Within the framework of cooperation, both parties agreed to hold periodic consultations and consultation and exchange of experiences in various fields, particularly in the training of parliamentary technicians.
The agreement also extends its intervention in the sharing of information on parliamentary activities, official legislative documents, studies and publications of parliamentary interest.
For this three-day visit to Cape Verde, Carolina Cerqueira is accompanied by a delegation made up of MPs Mário Pinto de Andrade (MPLA), Liberty Chiyaka (Unita), Florbela Malaquias (PHA), the first secretary of the board of the AN, Manuel Dembo, senior management and employees of the institution.
During the three days, the Angolan delegation, among other actions, will participate in the Solemn session in the National Assembly of Cape Verde, will visit the Tarrafal Prison, and will hold meetings with the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the President of the local Parliament .
Within the framework of increasing bilateral relations, the program also provides for an extended meeting between the two parliaments and a visit to the city of Santa Catarina.
As part of the parliamentary diplomacy that she has been maintaining with some countries, in April, Carolina Cerqueira was in the Kingdom of Morocco, where she signed an agreement to reinforce cooperation, for the exchange of experience in the most varied domains.
The parliaments of both countries have cooperated through Angola-Cape Verde Friendship Groups.
