Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Comoros Islands, Azali Assoumani, takes office on Sunday, the 26th, for his fourth term, after being re-elected in the January elections this year.

Azali Assoumani, 65 years old, won the January 14 elections, with 62.97% of the votes, guaranteeing a fourth five-year term and a third consecutive one at the head of the country, after having governed from 2002 to 2006 and 2016 to date.

Several African heads of state and government are expected to attend the inauguration ceremony.

The Comoros Islands, officially called the Federal Islamic Republic of Comoros, whose capital is Moroni, is an archipelago formed by four islands in the Indian Ocean.

The closest countries are Madagascar (to the southeast), Seychelles Islands (to the north) and Mozambique (to the east).

Despite being the third smallest country in Africa, its geographical position is considered highly strategic, having an area of ​​1,861 square kilometers where more than 800 thousand inhabitants live.

The population of Comoros is mostly Islamic (98%), with a minority of Christians who, despite not being prevented from practicing the religion, are prohibited from spreading it or propagandizing its principles.
