The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, reiterated, yesterday, in a message addressed to his Senegalese counterpart, Macky Sall, his concern regarding the latest developments in the Great Lakes Region, with emphasis on the tension between Rwanda and the Republic Democratic Republic of Congo.
In the message, delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, to the Senegalese President, the Head of State underlines the need to make efforts to resolve the conflict that has called into question all the political and diplomatic initiative carried out so far. .

According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to which Jornal de Angola had access, President João Lourenço, as acting president of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), presents the steps taken by Angola, in fulfillment of the mandate of the Malabo Summit, mentioning the latest developments in the Great Lakes Region.

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, addressed, last Tuesday, the tension registered on the common border between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, justifying the urgent realization of a tripartite summit in Luanda.

Tensions between the two countries worsened after the resumption, in March, of fighting between the Congolese army and the rebel movement (M23), which according to Kinshasa is supported by its Rwandan neighbours.

During the meeting that took place at the Dakar Palace, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, was accompanied by the head of the Africa, Middle East and Regional Organizations Directorate, Miguel César Bembe, and by the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Angola to Senegal. , Adão Pinto.
