President of the Republic returns to Luanda

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned this Saturday afternoon to Luanda, from the province of Cuanza Norte, where he learned about the progress of the construction work on the Caculo-Cabaça Hydroelectric Facility.

At the Luanda Air Base, the Angolan Head of State received greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, members of the Executive and senior officials in his office.

In Caculo-Cabaça, President João Lourenço pressed the button that “symbolizes” the beginning of the diversion of the Kwanza River, within the framework of the works on the Caculo-Cabaça Hydroelectric Facility, which will have a capacity of 2,272 megawatts of electricity.

Earlier, in the city of Ndalatando, the Angolan Head of State visited the construction works of the Hospital Geral do Cuanza Norte, having shown himself satisfied with the level of execution of the contract.

After visiting the work, with 48 percent completed, João Lourenço said he had a guarantee from the contractor and the work supervisor that the infrastructure will be inaugurated during the current year.

As for the Caculo-Cabaça Hydroelectric Facility, the holder of the Executive Branch reaffirmed the Angolan Government’s engagement in doing everything for the conclusion, within the foreseen times, of the referred undertaking.

The Head of State said he left with the feeling that a lot of work had already been done, but that the act of diversion of the river, just witnessed, is an important milestone for the continuation of the works on this important project.

With that, he said he hoped that within approximately three years, more specifically in October 2026, the hydroelectric dam could be inaugurated.

President João Lourenço thus completed, this Saturday, a visit of a few hours to the province of Cuanza Norte.
