Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on Saturday urged Angolan people to resolutely safeguard the values of peace, reconciliation, national unity, and territorial integrity.

Speaking at the opening of the 5th edition of the Angolan Municipalities and Cities Fair (FMCA) in Benguela province, João Lourenço highlighted that peace, national reconciliation, national unity, territorial integrity, and stability are achievements with incalculable value achieved through the sacrifice of millions of Angolans.

“Therefore, we have an imperative obligation to safeguard and perpetuate them,” the Head of the Executive Branch emphasized. According to the Angolan President, the economic and social infrastructure that underpins development and was built with the dedication and resources of all Angolans also requires its appreciation and protection by the entire society.

He acknowledged that the 50th anniversary of national independence, celebrated on November 11th, is not merely a commemorative event, “but constitutes a fitting occasion for the Angolan people to strengthen their sense of belonging, celebrate the progress achieved, and collectively prepare for the challenges ahead.”

He emphasized that the year 2025 represents, for all Angolans, a milestone of celebration and profound reflection. “It is a time for us to reflect on the importance of preserving and valuing the achievements made and on how we can, in the present, build a more promising future for every Angolan citizen.”

For you, commemorating November 11th, 1975, evokes the spirit of bravery that inspired some of the nation’s most valuable sons and daughters in the struggle for independence.

“This journey culminated with the solemn raising of our flag on that historic dawn, a heroic feat that, furthermore, compels us to continue our dedication to the development of every municipality in our country,” he stated.

João Lourenço also considered it essential that the national economy demonstrate its ability to adapt its dynamism and keep pace with the experiences, transformations, and challenges inherent to local governance.

The FMCA brings together representatives from the 21 provinces and 326 municipalities for the first time, within the framework of the country’s new Political-Administrative Division, a special edition of which is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of national independence.
