Africa-Press – Angola. Journalist Ismael Mateus defended, on Tuesday, electoral coverage that respects rigor, impartiality and objectivity. Speaking in Benguela, at a meeting on “Electoral Coverage, Rights and Duties of Journalists”, Ismael Mateus mentioned the Press Law, stressing the need for journalists to separate fact from opinion.

Ismael Mateus highlighted the ethical responsibility of the journalistic profession, and made it known that, if there is exemption in the published articles, citizens will be able to form their opinion on the political parties competing in the General Elections.

On the occasion, he also appealed for respect for the editorial profile of the bodies, and asked journalists to make contact with the electoral code of conduct, in order to safeguard the impartiality and equidistance of political actors.

The journalist added that professionals must make a commitment to the culture of contradictory, in order to guarantee the participation of all sensitivities in the public space.

“The journalist has a responsibility to listen to everyone when approaching a certain problem”, stressed Ismael Mateus, stressing that seeking exemption is a purpose that will help the citizen to form “a value judgment” regarding the programs of political parties in the electoral period.

He stated that journalists should not disseminate messages of incitement to hatred or violence between competitors and society. Regarding the rights of journalists, that official mentioned freedom, access to sources, as well as public places.
