Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço’s trip to the province of Namibe, where he inaugurated administrative support infrastructure for the Iona National Park, was the highlight of last week’s political news.

The Holder of Executive Power witnessed, on the occasion, the placement of some animal species, with emphasis on 13 giraffes, in the Iona National Park, for their repopulation.

The Iona National Park is in the process of being rehabilitated, with the installation of modern infrastructure, capable of offering better accommodation conditions to its users, particularly visitors.

João Lourenço highlighted, on his Facebook page, the need for greater investment in the tourism industry, taking into account the natural beauty and hospitality of Angolans.

The Head of State visited, in the country’s capital, the Angolan Engineering Laboratory (LEA) to learn about the functioning of this institution dedicated to the investigation, application and supervision of public works.

During his working day, João Lourenço visited the three pavilions that make up this institution that has existed for 63 years, namely geotechnical pavilions, roads and airfields and buildings and structures.

During the week, the President of the Republic recommended, to the reappointed Sonangol Board of Directors, the increase in oil and natural gas production, due to the fact that Angola is no longer part of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

On the other hand, the Angolan Head of State was invited to participate in the investiture ceremony of the re-elected President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, taking place on the 1st of June.

The invitation was delivered to Angola’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Francisco José da Cruz. The invitation was presented to the permanent representative of El Salvador at the United Nations, Egriselda López.

The President of the Republic received, in separate audiences, the delegation from the Sultanate of Oman, headed by Crown Prince Sayyid The-Yazin Haitham Al Said, and the minister advisor to the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Coumba Ba.

He also expressed regret for the victims of the floods in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where more than 135 deaths occurred.

In a message addressed to his Brazilian counterpart, Lula da Silva, the Angolan President said that he has followed with concern and regret the difficult situation caused by the floods that have occurred and which have resulted in serious and extensive human and material consequences.

On another aspect, the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, highlighted the Executive’s attention to basic social protection, inclusion of social groups in vulnerable situations, within the framework of the Africa 2063 agenda and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

In the last seven days, a delegation from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), headed by its head, Hélder Pitta Groz, traveled to Geneva

Switzerland, to discuss with the local authorities the issue of recovering assets from the Angolan State.

Another highlight of the week was the participation of the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, in the Nigerian city of Abuja, at the launch of the “WeAreEqual/We Are All Equal” Unifying Campaign, at the invitation of her Nigerian counterpart, Olumeri Tinubu.

Ana Dias Lourenço joined the other African First Ladies who attended the event that took place under the motto “Education, a powerful tool for change: no girl should be left behind”.

The Campaign, an initiative of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OPDAD), aimed to contribute to eliminating the gap between men and women, focusing on education, equity and learning opportunities for all.

Likewise, the Angolan Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, participated in the 13th World Conference of the Institute of Ombudsmen (IOI), which took place in The Hague, Netherlands, from the 12th to the 17th of this month.

In The Hague, Florbela Araújo participated in the session sharing knowledge and experiences on the role of the Ombudsman, environmental protection, damages, losses and injustices for citizens.

During the week, Parliament’s specialized committees recommended to the Plenary of this body the final vote on the Draft Resolution that establishes the composition of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) in accordance with the results of the 2022 general elections.

The Draft Resolution, a legislative initiative by the UNITA Parliamentary Group, establishes the composition of the CNE in light of the results obtained by political parties or coalitions of parties in the last general elections.

The deputies also gave a positive opinion to four diplomas on local authorities that will be discussed and voted on, in general, at the Plenary meeting of the legislative body scheduled for the 23rd of this month.

On the party side, the vice-president of the MPLA, Luísa Damião, defended the sharing and socialization of knowledge to organize political work, taking into account socioeconomic transformations.

The leader, who was speaking at the opening of the meeting of the National Network of MPLA Trainers and Lecturers, which took place at Complexo do Futungo II, emphasized that the Staff Department is working to ensure the continuous circulation and appropriation of knowledge at party level.

Also notable from the week’s events was the completion of the 19th basic military course for incorporation into the FAA, in the province of Lunda-Sul, with the participation of 850 young people from various provinces of the country.
