The Portuguese Heads of State, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and Bissau-Guinean, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, confirmed their presence at the investiture ceremony of the re-elected President of Angola, João Lourenço, whose solemn act is scheduled for Thursday, 15, in Praça of the Republic, in Luanda.
“At the invitation of the Angolan authorities, the President of the Republic will travel to Luanda this week to attend, on 15 September, the inauguration ceremony of the re-elected President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço”, reads a note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic on the Internet.
Last Friday, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa congratulated João Lourenço on his re-election as President of Angola, in a message in which he said that “the electoral process is over” and made “a wish that Angolan political life continues to develop in a climate of freedom, pluralism and tolerance”.
On its turn, the Presidency of Guinea-Bissau informed journalists yesterday that the Head of State, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, will be in Angola for the inauguration ceremony of João Lourenço.
The also acting president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in addition to visiting Luanda, will first stop in Kenya, where he will participate in the swearing-in of the newly elected William Ruto.
Umaro Sissoco Embaló had already greeted President João Lourenço with warm congratulations on the re-election of the Angolan statesman, after his victory in the General Elections on 24 August.
