Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-governor of Zaire for the political, social and economic sector, Afonso Nzolameso, recognized, this Thursday, in Mbanza Kongo, the important role of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in solving the conflicts that still rage Africa.
Speaking at the provincial act commemorating the Day of the Liberation of Southern Africa, March 23, the official highlighted the commitment of the Angolan Head of State to the pacification of the Great Lakes region.
He also highlighted the achievements of João Lourenço in the consolidation of democracy in Angola, since he took over the leadership of the country, in 2017.
The vice-governor asked Angolans to work for the consolidation and preservation of peace, the reinforcement of national unity, as a way of honoring the memory of fallen compatriots.
He reaffirmed, on the occasion, the Executive’s commitment to the continuous solution of the problems that still afflict former combatants and veterans of the country, with the adoption of policies that guarantee their well-being.
Participating in the act, witnessed by the provincial governor of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, members of the government, former combatants and veterans of the country, representatives of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), the National Police and others.
The act was preceded by the laying of a wreath on the tomb of an unknown soldier.
The commemorative activities of the Liberation Day of Southern Africa take place under the motto: “For the regional integration of Southern Africa, let us honor the combatants of Cuíto Cuanavale”.
It was in Cuito Cuanavale, province of Cuando Cubango, where the battle took place between 1987 and 1988, involving soldiers from the defunct Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FALA), supported by the South African Apartheid regime, and the Popular Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA), winners of this dispute.
