Africa-Press – Angola. A fighting room with all the necessary conditions for proper training for fighting sports is being refurbished in the economic zone. This was announced on THURSDAY by the Minister of Youth and Sports, at the reception ceremony for athletes from the amateur fighting and judo teams. Rui Falcão stated that the renovation work on the room has already begun and could be completed soon. “We are working with the well-being of fighting sports in mind. The work on the room has already begun and will be completed soon. It will allow athletes to train comfortably and peacefully”, he said.

After the ceremony to present the champions of the two sports, the highest authority in national sport recalled that the institution is closely monitoring the results of the fighting sports and will do everything to support and ensure that they remain at their best.

“We are working with these sports and we have achieved the desired goals. In Mixed Martial Arts we are leading the African and world rankings. The other sports such as Wrestling and Judo came to present their results. They achieved excellent results.

In a short time we will have karate and jiu jitsu preparing their tournament and we will support them. We also have in mind team sports such as basketball to reclaim their golden past and the pearls so that they do not fall out of the rankings”, he said.Judo returned from the African Championships in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, with seven medals, including one gold, two silver and four bronze, achieving a historic feat.

The Angolan team came third in the competition category, behind Algeria (second) and Egypt, the champion of the event.

Edmilson Pedro (-66 kg), gold, Leonardo Barros (-60 kg) and Andreza António (-57 kg), silver, Piter da Silva (+100 kg), Maria Segunda (-48 kg), Diassonema Mucungui (-70 kg), and Crislayn Rodrigues (+78 kg) bronze, were the protagonists.
