Africa-Press – Angola. The literary work “Resistência no sul de Angola Ovavale 1903-1917”, written by writer Nsungu Manuel, was presented this Wednesday to the public in the city of Ondjiva, Cunene province.

The book, with 99 pages, was published by Kilungi, has 112 copies and is the result of a study research started in 2017, in the province of Cunene.

Nsungu Manuel said that the work portrays the contribution of the Ovavale people in the resistance against the Portuguese during the occupation of the Cunene territories.

He explained that the approach brings to light issues from a historical, pedagogical, habits and customs point of view.

He stressed that the Ovavale is a subgroup of the Ovawambo linguistic ethnic group, located in the municipality of Evale, 66 kilometers north of the municipality of Cuanhama, in Cunene.

For his part, the director of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports of Cunene, Nelson Ndemulikuata, highlighted the importance of the book, as it portrays the history of a large group.

The person responsible appealed to young people to read the book, leaving them with a challenge to investigate more about the genesis of other cultures.

Resistance in southern Angola Ovavale 1903-1917 is Nsungu Manuel’s first work.

Nsungu Manuel, born in the province of Uíge, is a researcher in the history of Angola, with a degree in History teaching from the Escola Superior Pedagógica do Bengo.
