Africa-Press – Angola. On Saturday, in Luanda, the Republic of Rwanda highlighted the bilateral friendship and cooperation relations it currently maintains with Angola in various sectors for the benefit of both countries.

In brief statements to imperenas, on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of Rwanda’s Liberation Day (Thursday, July 13th), that country’s chargé d’affaires, Sam Masengesho, recalled the 1st Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation, held in 2022 and which resulted in the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding.

As a result of these legal instruments, he added, collaboration in the sectors of Agriculture, Health, Mineral Resources, Telecommunications and Transport was improved.

Sam Masengesho thanked the position of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in mediating the conflicts between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which has been praised by the international community.

As for Rwanda Liberation Day, the diplomat underlined that it has a deep meaning in the hearts of Rwandans, as it symbolizes the triumph over the 1994 genocide against Tutsis.

That year, he recalled, the Patriotic Front of Rwanda INKOTANYI, under the leadership of President Paul Kagame, put an end to the genocide and overthrew the regime responsible for the atrocities committed against the Rwandan people.

“The celebration marked significant steps in the history of Rwanda, leading the country towards a united, prosperous and inclusive nation”, reinforced Sam Masengesho before diplomats and officials of the Embassy of Rwanda in Angola.

He also welcomed the leadership of Paul Kagame, who has been instrumental in driving the country’s transformation: “Liberation, as we know it, is not a one-off event, nor an end point. It is an attitude that inspires all what we do and without which we cannot succeed”.

Masengesho paraphrased Paul Kagame in noting that Rwanda has transformed “from a divided nation to a united nation, from a country beset by corruption, to a country focused on responsibility and burdened by past challenges, to one that thinks big and seeks solutions sustainable”.
