Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan coach Roque Sapiri may return to coach the main football team of Sagrada Esperança in Lunda Norte next season (2023-24), said the club’s president, José Muacabalo, this Monday.
Roque Sapiri guided Sagrada Esperança in the 2020-2021 season as part of a bet on the “silver” of the house, after the termination of the club with the Portuguese Paulo Torres, due to poor results.
That season, he won two trophies at the service of the Lundas (Girabola 2020-21 and Supertaça de Angola/20-21).
At the end of the 2021-2022 season, Roque Sapiri left the technical command of Sagrada Esperança for not having the A and B licenses, which prevented him from guiding the team in the African Champions Clubs League.
The 47-year-old coach has been in Portugal since January of this year, where he is attending training to obtain the A and B licenses, under a cooperation agreement between Sagrada Esperança and Boavista FC.
Looking ahead to the next season, José Muacabalo said that within two months Roque Sapiri will complete his training and will be available for the market and could be the club’s first choice.
“We are in the market looking for a coach to guide the main football team because of our internal and external commitments and Roque Sapiri is one of our priorities”, he stressed.
He informed that the club will be strengthened in attack, defense and goal, with a demand in the domestic and foreign markets, so that next season it will be able to achieve its objectives, which are qualifying for the group stage of the Nelson Mandela Cup and winning the Girabola.
Without revealing names, he said that some players in the squad will be dismissed and others are at the end of their contract.
Founded on December 22, 1976, in Dundo, Sagrada Esperança was national champion in 2005 and 2021, as well as winner of the Angola Cup in 1988 and 1999.
The club made several appearances in African competition, playing in the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1989 and 2000.
He participated in the CAF Cup in 1992, 1998 and 2020 and also in the African Champion Clubs’ Cup in 2005, 2006 and 2021.
