Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministry of Education (MED) has instructed the directorates of general education schools in the country to carry out the tests for the first quarter from today until next Friday, the 16th, despite the teachers’ strike.

The guidance was downloaded on Friday night, at the end of a meeting, via zoom, with school directors from all provinces.

In the document, the MED also guides school directors to mark absences for students and teachers who do not appear for the tests.

School directors were also responsible for informing parents and guardians about the need to send students to school, starting today.

Teachers of the “probationary regime”, class, discipline and course coordinators are also instructed to ensure that the tests are carried out within the indicated period.

In the document, the MED recalls that teachers on probation, class, discipline and course coordinators should not join the strike, as they are part of the management and leadership of schools.

“Probationary teachers who are in the evaluation phase should not join the strike, because they run the risk of being removed from the Education Staff”, he warns.

Unions opposed to the decision

The National Union of Teachers (SINPROF) and of Teachers and Workers of Non-University Teaching (SINPTENU) were surprised by the decision of the Ministry of Education, at a time when there is a strike.

In a statement, SINPTENU refers that the strike in the Education sector is generic, including possible, probative and effective staff. The two unions consider, on the other hand, that the directors of provincial, municipal offices and educational establishments do not have the competence to summon teachers and other workers.

The general secretary of SINPROF, Ademar Jinguma, said that it was never the union’s intention to harm the students, but went on strike with the aim of demanding dignified conditions that value the technical quality of the teachers.

Ademar Jinguma asked school officials to respect the measures taken by SINPROF.
