Secretary of State Raises Concerns over Sports Infrastructure

Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Sports, Paulo Madeira, on Wednesday expressed concern about the neglect and deterioration of sports facilities in the Huambo province.

At the end of a meeting with the directors of the provincial Youth and Sports offices, Madeira pointed to the Ferrovia and Electro stadiums, as well as the Petro do Huambo sports gymnasium, all of which are in disrepair.

According to Madeira, the government cannot be expected to solve all problems. It is not the government’s responsibility to carry out the tasks of the country’s private sports association movement, especially since the government already helps to recover many club infrastructures without adequate management.

Madeira stated that there has often been no follow-up on the maintenance and use of infrastructure recovered by the state to promote sports development in beneficiary provinces.

The Secretary of State for Sports urged sports club managers to assess their individual capacity to manage the assets before submitting their applications and, in case of incapacity, to be humble enough to step down.
