Africa-Press – Angola. Six national citizens, without residence in Israel, were, on Tuesday, evacuated to Luanda, with a stopover in Lisbon, Portugal, announced the Angolan ambassador in Tel Aviv, Osvaldo Varela.

Speaking to Public Television of Angola (TPA), the diplomat clarified that since the beginning of the conflict there have been several cancellations of flights to Tel Aviv, making it difficult for Angolan citizens to evacuate, taking into account their status as non-residents.

In relation to the rest of the Angolan community, he said that of the 36 members, only 17 expressed interest in leaving Israel. there are still four uncontactable, three of which are athletes.

“We have already managed to contact basketball player Yanick Moreira. They gave us his contact details in Luanda, but we have not yet been able to contact him. We don’t know if he intends to be evacuated or not”, he pointed out.

He stated that as the number of Angolans is small, there is no need for the country to send a plane to Israel, since evacuation through commercial routes continues to be carried out.

When taking stock of the situation on the ground, the ambassador reported that after the recent attacks by Hamas, it was natural for Israel to react.

“This is a counter-offensive to clean up the south of the country, where Hamas troops had penetrated and carry out massive bombings against the Gaza Strip”, he said.

Last Saturday, the armed wing of Hamas attacked southern Israel by air, land and sea, causing more than a thousand deaths, most of them civilians.
