Africa-Press – Angola. Six fishermen survived a shipwreck that occurred early Friday evening off the coast of Musserra, Nzeto municipality, Zaire province.

The incident happened around 6:30 PM when a blue and white artisanal boat, coming from Luanda, was caught in strong swells after an engine failure.

In statements this Saturday, the spokesperson for the Civil Protection and Fire Service in Zaire, Manuel Mpanzo Cassua, explained that the six occupants, aged between 27 and 32, were fishing near an oil platform (Block 12).”After the engine failure, the vessel was dragged by the swells, and thanks to swimming techniques, the six fishermen managed to reach the beach of the village of Mulunga, in the Musserra commune,” he explained.

Manuel Cassua appealed for compliance with maritime safety regulations, especially the preventive maintenance of vessels and navigation equipment.

He said that the incident caused material damage estimated at eight million kwanzas, and he advised the fishermen to avoid fishing in areas prohibited by the Angolan authorities.

The province of Zaire has a 250 km coastline crossed by the municipalities of Soyo, Nzeto, Quêlo, Tomboco and Nzeto.
