Africa-Press – Angola. Social protection in Angola is taking expansion steps, analyzing the risks it covers and the people it covers, said this Friday, in Luanda, specialist from the International Labor Organization (ILO) Mariana Pereira.

For the expert, the national social protection system began to develop late, as it was not possible to move forward without further formalizing the economy.

Speaking at the end of the training for journalists on Social Protection, held over three days, he added that, often, the greatest difficulty lies in the high level of informality in the Angolan economy.

The main objective of this training, explained Mariana Pereira, is to present the social protection systems in Angola, both mandatory and basic, and encourage journalists to cover these topics more, as well as contributing to the debate in Angolan society.

“The message given was that social protection is not just for the vulnerable, but for everyone, as it is a human right”, he highlighted.

On the occasion, speaker Catarina Almeida Pereira said that the training was a good experience, considering that very interested and curious people participated.

Social protection consists of a set of guarantees offered to citizens to reduce social, political, economic and natural vulnerabilities, weaknesses and risks that may occur during their lifetime.

The course for journalists on social protection, now closed, began on Wednesday, the 13th, with the participation of 50 professionals in the field.

The opening ceremony was led by the Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nuno Caldas Albino.

The training was funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the International Labor Organization (ILO), in partnership with the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS).
