South African Businesspeople Invited to Invest in Benguela Province

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Benguela, Manuel Nunes Júnior, listed agriculture, fisheries, industry, and tourism as sectors open to investment by South African businesspeople visiting on Friday the Lobito Corridor in the city of Lobito.

The businesspeople participated in a two-day tour of Huambo, Bié, and Benguela provinces at the invitation of the Consulate General of Angola in South Africa.

“We want this Corridor to modernize and increase the competitiveness of the regional and national economies,” the governor said.

He believes that the Lobito Corridor should differentiate the process of diversifying and exporting the national economy because the region and the country need more jobs, higher wages, and better living conditions for the population.

He believes the Lobito Corridor has the potential to improve the lives of Angolans and that everyone in the public and private sectors should collaborate on this project.

“Benguela occupies an important place in Angola’s economy. In addition to the Benguela Railway and the Port of Lobito, we have a road network that connects us to neighboring countries, which consolidates the Lobito Corridor as a logistical and strategic hub serving interregional trade and the export of goods and services,” he said.

He highlighted the fact that, apart from Luanda, Benguela is the only province with an international airport, which gives it autonomy to connect with the whole world and facilitate the international movement of people and goods.

“This is a major competitive advantage for this province, which has great potential in the agricultural sector and is proud to be considered the vegetable garden of Angola due to its high productivity,” Junior said.

The governor highlighted the fertile valleys in the 23 municipalities, with more than 10,000 irrigable hectares, favoring crops such as corn, beans, bananas, coffee, rice, wheat, citrus fruits, vegetables, and tubers.

He said that in addition to transporting minerals from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia to the coast of Angola, he considers rail and port infrastructure to be a catalyst for the development of the entire region, which includes Benguela, Huambo, Bié, Moxico, and now Moxico Leste.

The province of Benguela has great potential in the areas of agriculture, livestock, fisheries, tourism, and mineral resource exploration.
