Africa-Press – Angola. Ancient glories of Angolan sport were immortalized in a literary work of more than one hundred pages, launched Tuesday, in Luanda, at Cidadela Complex.
With the title “Homage to the Glories of the Past of Our Sport”, co-authored by Napoleão Brandão and Sack Santos, the 392-page book and a print run of 1000 copies narrates the sporting careers of 196 figures from 11 sports.
In addition to the preface, which makes an incursion into the history of Angolan sport, its opening pages highlight football, with expositions of facts and photos of the legendary player Joaquim Dinis “Brinca N`areia”, Domingos Inguila, Ndunguidi, Jesus, Akwá, between others.
Under the seal of the publishing house “Caneta de Estilo”, in athletics reference is made to the life and achievements of the now deceased athlete and coach Demosthenes de Almeida Clington, trainer of several generations of the specialty in the country.
In handball, emphasis goes to the former practitioner and current Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, as well as the also defeated Paulo Bunze, considered the best Angolan player of all time.
In basketball, there are the names of Gustavo da Conceiçao (president of the Angolan Olympic Committee – COA), Nacissela Maurício (former captain of the senior women’s national team), Miguel Lutonda and others.
In a ceremony, which was attended by several personalities, such as the Secretary of State for Sports, Teresa Ulundo, the author Sack Santos, also a former football player, expressed his satisfaction with the work, referring to it as the result of many consultations, investigations and contribution to history of national sport.
He added that the launch of the second edition is planned, still without a date, where another 200 athletes will also be honored.
Identical position was taken by Napoleão Brandão, who expressed his joy in “eternalizing” those who did a lot for Angolan sport.
When called to speak, in turn, the former football player Manuel Loth said that sport is a fundamental field for socialization and that the work comes to immortalize the glories of the country.
The book, quite voluminous, with a red cover and yellow letters, which had a symbolic autograph session, is being sold at a price of 15,000 Kwanzas.
