Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan swimmers Rafaela Santo and Yano Elias compete, Tuesday, in the 5km race of the World Championship, in open waters, taking place in Fukuoka, Japan.
Rafaela, who plays for the Clube Náutico da Ilha de Luanda, is the 34th on the list that involves 63 competitors, with the starting gun taking place at 00:00.
The competitor has been the female national reference in open water events, achieving a silver medal at the Zone IV African Championship in 2022 in Zambia.
Even in 2022, he participated in the 10km race of the Junior World Cup, in the Seychelles Islands.
Yano Elias, on the other hand, is fifth, out of a total of 72 swimmers enrolled, with the start taking place at 2:00 am.
The 1o de Agosto swimmer has proved to be the new Angolan long distance runner, after Pedro Pinotes.
Its history, in open waters, includes the victory of the 4km race, this year, in preparation for the Zonal Africano IV, held in Luanda.
The country will also participate in Fukuoka, with the specialty of pure swimming, represented by Lia Lima, Maria Freitas, Salvador Gordo and Henrique Mascarenhas.
