Africa-Press – Angola. The Associations of Taxi Drivers and Motorcycle Taxi Drivers in the province of Lunda Sul applauded this Friday, in the city of Saurimo, the Executive’s measure to maintain the price of gasoline, for their activities, at 160 kwanzas.
The Angolan Government has set the price of a liter of gasoline at 300 kwanzas, as opposed to 160, as of today, a change that does not cover taxis, motorcycle taxis, boats, public transport and the productive sector.
Taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers in Lunda Sul call on their colleagues to join the licensing program for their vehicles and motorcycles, so that they can benefit from the advantages it offers.
Regarding this measure taken by the Executive, the president of Taxi Drivers in Lunda Sul, Nelson Camisa, praised the initiative taken by the Executive, as it will give greater dignity to citizens who exercise this profession.
He appealed to the associates to be calm about receiving the cards, which will arrive in their possessions within days, as negotiations are being carried out with the local authorities, and those who have not yet licensed the vehicles must go to the designated locations, so that they can carry out their activity legally.
In turn, the spokesman for the association of motorcycle taxi drivers, Iringa Caluembe, said that this measure is satisfactory for their activities.
He advised colleagues to go to the headquarters of the association of motorcycle taxi drivers, in order to obtain more information about the fuel subsidy measure, taken by the Executive.
He also asked members to be calm and not raise the price of the taxi ride, so as not to harm citizens who enjoy these services.
In Lunda Sul, 160 vehicles providing taxi services were registered, of which only seven are licensed, while 1,410 motorcycle taxi drivers are legal, of the more than 4,000 controlled by the association.
