Africa-Press – Angola. The Republics of Angola and the Arab Republic of Egypt signed, this Wednesday, in Luanda, two memoranda of understanding, within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, existing since 1976.
The two countries agreed to cooperate in matters of Security and Public Order, with the legal instrument signed by the Ministers of the Interior of Angola, Eugénio Laborinho, and of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry.
At the ceremony, witnessed by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Assistance on Groundwater was also signed.
The referred memorandum was initialed by the ministers of Energy and Water of Angola, João Baptista Borges, and of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry.
Angola-Egypt Cooperation
On March 26, 1987, Angola and Egypt formalized the signing, in Luanda, of the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
According to information, the two countries are very interested in increasing cooperation in areas such as the Economy, Trade and Industry, Education, Higher Education and Technical-Professional Training, Energy and Water, Banking and Finance, Agriculture and Fisheries.
Angola and Egypt are also engaged in the preparation of the first session of the Bilateral Commission, which should assess cooperation and establish the implementation process of the legal instruments in force.
The Bilateral Commission meeting will make it possible to identify new areas of cooperation, taking into account the potential of Angola and Egypt.
Egyptian companies were among the first to provide “important support” to the Angolan Executive Program to combat Covid-19, having provided various biosafety equipment, hospital consumables and a value of two hundred (200) million kwanzas.
Egypt is located in the northern region of the African continent, bordering Sudan to the South, Libya to the West, the Mediterranean Sea to the North and the Red Sea to the East.
The Suez Canal, built in 1869, connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea through a waterway at sea level with a population of 100.9 million inhabitants and a territorial extension of 1,001,450 square kilometers.
