Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Government reiterated, in New York, its commitment to continue improving road safety, with a view to achieving the goals established by the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030.

The position was expressed by the permanent representative of the Angolan Mission to the United Nations, Francisco José da Cruz, highlighting that the Executive has paid special attention to road safety throughout the country and is taking decisive initiatives to reduce mortality rates caused for road accidents.

When speaking at the plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly on Improving Global Road Safety, the ambassador informed that Angola approved, last year, the National Road Safety and Prevention Plan 2023-2027, in line with regional and continents, to halve the number of road accidents and place the country among the top 10 African states with the fewest road accidents.

With this Plan, explained Francisco da Cruz, the Government intends to improve the training process for vehicle drivers, develop a culture of road education, guarantee efficient management and increase the safety levels of infrastructures, vehicles and road users. road.

Francisco José da Cruz also added that the Plan also aims to improve and expand rescue and care for accident victims, thus reducing the number of deaths resulting from road accidents.

The aforementioned project encourages the establishment of inter-ministerial coordination mechanisms, particularly between the ministries of Health, Transport, Education, Public Works, as well as Interior and Environment, in order to address cross-cutting issues that affect all sectors involved..

Member States adopted, by consensus, on Monday, in New York, during the plenary meeting, the Draft Resolution on Improving Global Road Safety.

The document urges the organization and relevant actors to accelerate and intensify efforts towards the implementation of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, making road safety a political priority and ensuring its relevance in the broader agenda. broad range of sustainable development.
