Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial secretary of UNITA in Benguela, Avelino Canjamba José, reiterated, this weekend, the need to institutionalize local elections in Angola.
Speaking at a political act alluding to the 51st anniversary of the founding of the Angolan Women’s League (LIMA), the female branch of the largest opposition party, Avelino José appealed to the Executive to speed up the holding of local elections.
In this sense, it considers that the women affiliated to LIMA will play a fundamental role in mobilizing society, for the success of the party in the local elections.
Avelino Canjamba José also understands that women must continue the fight for their emancipation with competence, aiming to assume prominent positions in Angolan society.
Highlighting LIMA’s support for the struggle for national independence, the politician recalled the creation, in 1972, of the party’s female wing, the result of the vision of UNITA’s founder, who understood organizing women to conquer their space.
“Over the years, women have been conquering their role and today they manage to issue their voice in proportion to men to say that they can compete on an equal footing”, stressed the official.
He also assured that UNITA is open to dialogue with the MPLA, in order to consolidate unity among Angolans in the search for solutions to the country’s socio-economic problems.
“Only together will we be able to build the Angolan nation”, he warned, appealing to political leaders to put an end to the division between Angolans, regardless of party color.
