UNITEL offers teaching material to 300 students in Calandula

Africa-Press – Angola. Three hundred primary school students from the villages of Cangongo, Canda, Dala Dungue and Buaca, in the municipality of Calandula, today benefited from diverse teaching material, an offer from the mobile telephone operator UNITEL.

The gesture falls within the scope of the company’s social responsibility and aims to minimize the difficulties that children face and contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning.

In addition, a 1st cycle classroom was opened in the village of Buaca, which will accommodate 45 children, who will now no longer have to travel 90 kilometers on foot to study in the village of Cangongo.

On the occasion, the person responsible for the social area at UNITEL, Cecília Fernandes, said that the donation, made up of books, notebooks, pencils, folders and erasers, was collected during a charity campaign carried out by UNITEL employees from December 2019 to January 2020.

Regarding the classroom, he said it was the fulfillment of a promise made by the operator a few years ago, adding that social properties such as health centers and water holes have also been built to help the population of these villages.

He announced that UNITEL has been supporting 200 peasant families with agricultural means for some time to promote family farming.

In turn, the municipal administrator of Calandula, Mateus Vunje, thanked UNITEL for the gesture and considered that the classroom now offered, in addition to reducing the distance between children, will allow other children to be taken out of the education system.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries praised the offers and committed to taking care of the classroom, with a view to serving other students in the future.
