Africa-Press – Angola. The cases of dismissals without just cause lead the list of complaints regularly registered by the Ombudsman’s Office, said Friday, in Huambo, the head of that body.
Florbela Araújo was speaking at a lecture on “The role of the Ombudsman in the defense of fundamental rights, freedoms and guarantees, in view of the international legal instruments to which Angola is a party”.
According to the Ombudsman, the occurrence of those cases mostly result from the socio-economic situation facing the country. In view of the situation, he added, the managers’ option, with the intention of minimizing cash costs, has been the dismissal of employees without complying with the established rules.
He said that in addition to the cases of dismissals, there are complaints of non-regulation of the paternal and lack of provision of alimony, acts carried out mainly by agents of the defense and security bodies.
Therefore, Florbela Araújo asked for greater collaboration from the managers of public administration bodies, so that the Ombudsman’s Office can effectively respond to all complaints presented by citizens.
Before an audience made up of members of the Government, judicial magistrates, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, lawyers, academics and representatives of defense, security, internal order and civil society bodies, he said that the role and mode of functioning of the Ombudsman’s Office were fundamental. be more publicized in the communities, “for being the guardian of the rights and legitimate interests of the citizens”.
On the sidelines of the lecture, the Ombudsman, who was accompanied by her Portuguese counterpart, Maria Lúcia Amaral, in her capacity as executive secretary of the Network of Ombudsmen of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), visited the provisional establishment of Cambiote , on the outskirts of the city of Huambo.
In addition to that prison unit, with more than 1,200 inmates, including detainees and convicts, the providers verified the functioning of the General Hospital of Huambo, the Criminal Investigation Service and shelters for children and the elderly. The working day to the Central Plateau of the two officials was part of the program to celebrate the Ombudsman’s Week and in Angola’s assumption of the rotating presidency of the CPLP Network of Ombudsmen, with the aim of holding a clarification session on the role, function and mandate of the ombudsman in defending the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens.
The Ombudsman is an independent public entity whose mission is to defend the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens, ensuring, through informal means, the justice and legality of the activity of the public administration.
