Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial secretary of the Cunene Union of Trade Unions (UNTA), Eliseu Honge, defended this Monday, in the city of Ondjiva, the need for the employers to ensure contractual compliance and improve social and work conditions.
The trade unionist who was speaking at the provincial act that marked the commemorations of the 1st of May, World Workers’ Day, referred that most employees of private companies do not have a contract, leading the worker to be submissive to all anomalies in the workplace.
He said that the non-signing of contracts with workers, as well as the failure to comply with those already signed, subjects workers to carrying out some inappropriate actions, submitting themselves to accept any type of situation.
He stressed that UNTA, in partnership with the General Labor Inspectorate, is working to reverse this type of behavior by employers.
“UNTA has been negotiating with employers demanding compliance with the law and the employment contract, reaffirming the commitment to continue working to provide the best living and working conditions”, he underlined.
The intention is to reconcile the interests of employers, workers and society in general, in order to guarantee respect and observance of workers’ rights, as well as the continuity and sustainability of economic activity.
Likewise, he pointed out social inequalities, high unemployment, precarious health and safety conditions at work, discrimination against domestic workers as concerns that affect the class in the region.
Eliseu Honge also highlighted the need to approve the new General Labor Law, considered a crucial instrument for guaranteeing labor rights and obligations.
He argued that the new General Labor Law aims to conform legal and labor relations with constitutional principles and with the socio-economic reality of the country.
Under the motto “Organized workers, let’s fight for job stability”, the activities of the International Workers’ Day began with a parade that gathered hundreds of workers in front of the municipal gallery of Cuanhama.
