US Ambassador Meets with PRS President

Africa-Press – Angola. The ambassador of the United States of America (USA) to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, met Thursday, in the municipality of Viana (Luanda), with the president of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), Benedito Daniel.

To the press, Benedito Daniel said that the visit served to interact on the development of democracy in Angola, the social well-being of the populations and analysis of projects that the USA has for the Angolan population.

He made it known that the US is interested in continuing its cooperation with Angola, and the visit is part of the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of relations between the two states.

He also added that, at the meeting, the diplomat alluded to his interest in transmitting his experience for the country’s economic development and expressed his willingness to receive the teachings and experiences of the Angolans.

The holding of municipal elections was another subject discussed, referring not to understand why they do not take place, considering that the simple question of not completing the approval of the municipal electoral package is not a sufficient reason for this.

“We deputies are ready for this package to be finalized, as long as it is scheduled to be approved at the right time and this cannot be an obstacle for the elections not to be held, since the lives of the populations are degrading because the lack of this component could contribute to its improvement”, he concluded.

In a note, the US embassy states that the visit aimed to learn more about the PRS vision for Angola following the August 2022 election results, recalling that the US has been working for a long time to strengthen democracies and promote respect for human rights in Worldwide.

The idea is to listen to all voices to understand the diverse perspectives that each party brings to the table, believing that strong democracies result in more peaceful, prosperous and stable nations.

He points out that democracies also make stronger partners for the United States as we work together to address the world’s most pressing international challenges, from combating the climate crisis to preventing a potential pandemic.

He also stressed that the US supports the democratic process in Angola and encourages all political voices to contribute to this.
